Waiver Services

 

Virginia Medicaid Waivers pay for a variety of supports and services for children and adults who need long-term support systems to live successfully in the community rather than in institutional settings.

 

Consumer-Directed Services

Model of service delivery where the waiver individual (or their representative) are the Employer of Record (EOR) and assume the responsibility for directly hiring, training, scheduling, supervising, and dismissing the person or persons that provide direct support services that are reimbursed by DMAS.

Cardinal Care Program

Designed for adults 65+ with a medical or nursing need OR individuals less than 65 years old with a disability and a medical or nursing need. Services are provided in the community (as opposed to in a nursing home). Services available via this waiver include assistance with the Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) and Instrumental Activities of Daily Living (IADLs), such as bathing, grooming, dressing, light house cleaning, preparation of meals, and monitoring of medications.Community Living

Agency-Directed Services

Personal care services that are provided by an agency. This is a model of service delivery where an agency is responsible for providing direct support staff, maintaining individuals’ records, and scheduling the dates and times of the direct support staff’s presence in the individuals’ home.

Family & Individual Support (FIS)

Developmental Disability (DD) waiver available to recipients aged six and older who are diagnosed with a developmental disability prior to the age of 22. Individuals may live with their family, friends, or in their own homes and may need support with some medical and/or behavioral needs. This is the only waiver that provides up to 80 hours per year of Family & Caregiver training.

Community Living (CL)

Developmental Disability (DD) waivers available to recipients aged six and older who are diagnosed with a developmental disability prior to the age of 22. This waiver supports individuals who have extremely high medical, behavioral, or support needs and provides 24/7 active services.
